Madison Afternoon Session

July 6, 2007

By Joe McCord

Hydroplanes are back on the water.

The U10 Miss Ahearn Rentals is on the water as the afternoon session is now underway. The U6 has moved camp and is now under anohter crane. The U10 first lap 148.689mph as David Bryant takes the 10 up the back straightaway. Bryant the rookie on the circuit this year really likes the feeling of this boat. His second lap is 150.383mph. The water  is the smoothest  I have seen here in many years. His next lap is 148.131mph. This is just a test session as qualifying qill begin later today.Swinging wide under the Madison-Milton Bridge, the only place on the racing circut that the hydros actually go under a bridge.

The U25 Superior Racing is now being lowered into the water. Dr Ken Muscatel is now entering the rac course. DR Ken has been racing here in Madison for several years, and he really like sthis course. He says that the course is a challenge due to the long straightaways and really tight turns. Dr Kens' first lap in this test session is 140.114mph. Slowing down he now cuts the course to make  his way back to the pit area.

The Billy and Jane Schumacher owned U37 Miss Beacon Plumbing is now entering the water. Driver Jean Theore, from Maple Grove, Canada takes the U37 out onto the race course for his first run during the test session here in Madison. Theoret has won 5 races during his unlimited career, four just this past season. The boat is sporting a new cowling design it actually is incorporated into the cockpit hatch. Running smooth as he runs under the bridge screaming down the straightaway, his speed 151.860mph. Lap two his speed is 154.046mph. The fastest during testing here today.

More to come.....
